      "description_narrative":["The project aims to address learning issues, challenges and opportunities with Malaysian children of remote rural areas, and to investigate their acceptance to and engagement with learning using the CreativeCulture model. Upon successful implementation and testing in the proposed participatory studies, the outcome of the research will inform Malaysia on means for effectively infusing the CreativeCulture model to assist and accelerate learning for children in remote rural locations.  To develop the CreativeCulture model, the project will explore, exploit and experiment the impact of arts, design and culture in enhancing creative thinking, problem solving and development in education through game design and computational thinking. The project is aligned with the inclusion of Arts in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education (STEAM), realising the potential of these subjects by enabling true innovation and new thinking through creativity. Art and culture boost creativity and creativity leads to innovation, new thinking and moving beyond existing skills; all together are triggers and needed in the social and economical transformation. There is also a need for fun, playful, hands-on, socially and culturally grounded explorations of topics during primary and secondary school to foster contextualised and deeper learning.       "title_narrative":["Digital threads: Towards personalised craft production in Malay cottage industries"],
      "description_narrative":["The Digital Threads project addresses the challenge of poverty for rural Malay women and its risk for the cultural heritage of traditional weaving practices. Cottage industries across the entire region of South Asia are considered beneficial both for economic growth and as accessible means to alleviate rural poverty. The Malay Government has invested significantly over recent decades to revitalise weaving practices such as songket textiles. However, there has been limited success since these initiatives have adopted a traditional product-centric business model and made limited use of digital technologies.  In this project we will engage in ground-breaking interdisciplinary research to promote sustainable economic development and welfare in Malaysia by radically changing the business models of cottage industries. The project will explore more sustainable and innovative business models flexible to integrate cutting-edge technologies that place customers at the centre of personalised production. We propose the design of digital applications which could be built upon distributed ledger technology for the management of the demand chain. These in turn will be able to support the hand-making of unique individual artefacts rather than mass-production commodities.  The Digital Threads project has the potential for significant economic and social contributions. We draw expertise from HCI, computer science, and information management to deliver:  (i) new knowledge about the cottage industries and their decentralised handmade modes of production; (ii) innovative customer-centric business models for the management of the demand chain; and  (iii) novel designs of digital technologies for shaping these business models through fresh approaches to designing for provenance. Such approaches will enable the transparency of the hand-making process, the maker's experience, and the value of cultural heritage embedded in it.   These outcomes have the potential to bring the Malay cottage industries into the 21st century and its worldwide Digital Economy whilst honouring and leveraging their cultural heritage.       "description_narrative":["The project aims to broaden and extend the impact of experiential learning through play and gamification as a creative, emphatic and inclusive pedagogical practice in Malaysia towards Education 4.0 responding to Industry 4.0. The project builds on a previous collaboration between Coventry University(CU) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak(UNIMAS) via the Newton CreativeCulture project, which has produced a blueprint for Gamification for STEM education that includes a suite of playful pedagogical tools and gamified lessons created by teachers for teachers. We identified that sustainable and effective adoption can be achieved by enabling teachers to embed the approach in the curriculum and the empowerment of schools to review, redesign and progress their practices.  Aligning with (1)UNESCO's view that teacher upskilling is one of the most direct means to achieve inclusive and equitable quality education and, (2)STEM Education Policy under the Malaysia Education Blueprint (MEB, 2015-2025) that promotes hands-on inquiry, creative designs and open-ended exploration, we will (1)train teachers in partnership with local Departments of Education, (2)engage students with playful and gamified learning in partnership with local teachers and schools, and (3)investigate sustainable formal adoption, engaging with schools, policymakers, community groups and local industries towards informing policy.   Efforts to improve and maintain sustainable growth in economic development towards a developed status hinge on an updated education system that is more creative.       "description_narrative":["The Leaders in Innovation Fellowships programme builds technology entrepreneurship capacity of select partner country researchers who are developing a business proposition for their innovation which must meet a development challenge. Selected researchers benefit from focussed short term training and long term support through access to expert mentors and international networks.","The primary objective of the Leaders in Innovation Fellowships (LIF) programme is to build the capacity of researchers for entrepreneurship and commercialisation of their research. The programme is aimed primarily at researchers within the partner country who are in the process of developing a business proposition for their innovation. All business ideas are assessed based upon their potential for social and economic development impact. A select cohort of researchers from that country will benefit from focussed support including a focussed period of training in the UK in aspects of commercialisation and technology entrepreneurship and access to expert mentors from the UK. In the short term they will develop a commercialisation plan for their innovation. In the long term they will benefit from on-going support at their home institution, and access to an international network of peer innovators and mentors, in taking their commercialisation plan forward.       "description_narrative":["\nDengue is the fastest-growing mosquito-borne viral\ninfection in the world today. It is present in over\n150 countries, and approximately 40 percent of\nthe world’s population now live in countries where\ndengueis a daily risk.\nThe D-MOSS project is developing a dengue fever\nearly warning system that generates several months\nadvance warning of likely dengue outbreaks\nutilising Earth Observation (EO). An advance\nwarning on dengue risk, could help public health\nofficials plan cost-effective actions in advance and\nmove away from a reactive system where disease\ncontrol interventions occur after a dengue outbreak\noccurs.\nOne of the key D-MOSS components is a water\nassessment module that provides the additional\nbenefit of improving water management in\ntransboundary river basins. Seven of the nine major\nriver basins that drain to Vietnam are transboundary\nin nature and it is estimated that some two-thirds of\nVietnam’s water resources comes from neighbouring\ncountries, making water management challenging.\nIn recent years countries upstream of Vietnam have\nincreased their water use and Vietnam is currently\nfacing increasingly negative impacts from the water\npolicies of upstream countries. The development\nof an EO‑based water availability system will help\nthe Vietnamese Government to improve their\nwater resources monitoring and management in\ntransboundary river basins.\nThe dengue fever and water management\nchallenges are similar in other countries in South\nAsia and as of June 2019, the project has been\nextended to cover Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Sri\nLanka, Thailand and The Philippines.","This work will provide a tool that enables advance warning of likely dengue outbreaks, allowing public health authorities to mobilise resources to those most in need. The project will also provide forecasts of dengue fever under a range of climate change scenarios. The system will link Earth Observation data with climate forecasting and a land-surface model to predict for the first time the impacts of various elements (such as water availability, land-use, climate), on the likelihood of future dengue epidemics. The dengue forecasting tool will also include a water assessment module, delivering the additional benefit of improving water management in Viet Nam's transboundary river basins."],
