      "description_narrative":["This is an Official Development Assistance (ODA) funded project from the UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC)’s Fleming Fund which helps to fight antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where the burden of drug-resistant infection is greater. This pilot project in Vietnam: 1) Developed an AMR reference laboratory, including setting up the required infrastructure and recruitment and training of a surveillance team and; 2) Developed a national AMR surveillance programme. As a result of this work, Vietnam has developed its first stage of laboratory infrastructure at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Hanoi. Equipment has been installed, staff recruited and trained, and surveillance networks strengthened. The pilot project has now ended but there is a Fleming Fund country grant in Vietnam that is overseen by the Fleming Fund management agent as part of the ‘Fleming Fund - Country and Regional Grants and Fellowships Programme’ GB-GOV-10-FF_MA."],

      "description_narrative":["The Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA) is a multi-sector alliance that aims to drive investment into coastal natural capital through the development of innovative finance solutions. These products will reduce vulnerability and build resilience in the most exposed and vulnerable coastal regions and communities. The UK has committed £13.9 million into ORRAA, delivered in two phases. A successful Phase 1 in 2021-22 provided £1.9m in grant funding, followed by Phase 2 from 2022-2026 with £12m committed in grant funding. The UK’s investment will address 2 challenges faced by coastal communities and the ocean environment: 1) Tackling the impacts of anthropogenic climate change and biodiversity loss. 2) Overcoming barriers that prevent finance flowing into nature-based solutions. The grant awarded to ORRAA will support their aims to drive at least $500 million of investment into coastal and ocean natural capital, and produce at least 50 new, innovative finance products, by 2030. This would positively impact the resilience of 250 million climate vulnerable people in coastal areas worldwide."],

      "description_narrative":["Illegal wildlife trade (IWT) is a widespread and lucrative criminal activity causing major global environmental and social harm. The IWT has been estimated to be worth up to £17 billion a year. Nearly 6,000 different species of fauna and flora are impacted, with almost every country in the world playing a role in the illicit trade. The UK government is committed to tackling illegal trade of wildlife products and is a long-standing leader in efforts to eradicate the IWT. Defra manages the Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund, which is a competitive grants scheme with the objective of tackling IWT and, in doing so, contributing to sustainable development in developing countries. Projects funded under the Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund address one, or more, of the following themes: • Developing sustainable livelihoods to benefit people directly affected by IWT, • Strengthening law enforcement, • Ensuring effective legal frameworks, • Reducing demand for IWT products. By 2023 over £51 million has been committed to 157 projects since the Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund was established in 2013. This page contains information about Rounds 7 onwards.       "description_narrative":["Ground-level ozone concentrations are high in many crop-growing areas of the world. Concentrations are increasing rapidly in developing countries and are predicted to continue to increase in coming decades unless measures are taken to cut precursor emissions. Ozone pollution has adverse impacts on crop production of sensitive species such as beans, soybean, wheat, rice and maize, and therefore contributes to the yield gap reported for these crops. The study reviewed the literature for field-based evidence of impacts of ambient ozone levels on crops in ODA countries. For most ODA countries, little to no field-based evidence has been collated for ozone impacts on crops. Data is especially lacking for Africa (although some evidence is presented here for Egypt), most of Central and South America and South-eastern and Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia. However, in the last 15 years, considerable evidence of ozone impacts on crops has emerged from a limited number of locations in China, India and to some extent Pakistan. The reduction of crop yield losses due to ozone in these countries is often in the range of 5 – 20%, with sometimes losses being reported in excess of 40%. The sensitivity to ozone varies between crop species, with legumes such as bean and soybean often being identified as very sensitive, wheat being sensitive and rice and maize being less sensitive to ozone. In addition, the sensitivity to ozone varies between varieties of crop species. There is a need to include assessment of ozone sensitivity in crop breeding programmes and field trials to develop high yielding ozone tolerant varieties that are also more resilient to future climate stresses such as heat and drought stress. In addition, potential crop management options that could contribute to reducing the adverse impacts of ozone on crops should be tested under field conditions. These approaches will contribute significantly to reducing the current yield gap for crops."],
